Steve Waugh tips Virat Kohli as greatest ODI player of all time

Former Australian captain Steve Waught has rated Virat Kohli as the greatest ODI player of all time. Kohli has been a consistent performer in the 50-over version and has delivered consistently for India over the years.

Kohli has scored 14255 runs in 305 ODI matches at an impressive average of 57.71, including 51 centuries. The talisman recently made a comeback to professional cricket in the three-match ODI series against Australia but bagged two ducks in the first two games.

However, he bounced back strongly in the final game, scoring 74 runs off 81 balls. On the other hand, Rohit Sharma top-scored with 202 runs in the series and was awarded Player of the Series. Rohit also climbed to the top position in the ICC rankings. Waugh said the fans want to keep watching the veteran duo in action.

“Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are two all-time great players. The former is probably the greatest ODI player of all time. You want to see them play everywhere. People on the Gold Coast would love to see them play, but they cannot play every match,” Waugh said while speaking to the media.

Meanwhile, Kohli and Rohit retired from T20Is after leading India to glory in the 2024 T20 World Cup. Waugh highlighted that India has got a modern T20 team, which is playing with an aggressive approach.

“Whilst they are still playing for India, that is fantastic. They have got a modern T20 side now, a lot of exciting stars playing. The game has got to evolve. It is always great to see all-time great players in action,” Waugh said.

“Someone like Kohli, that is a once-in-a-generation sort of player. If you get a chance, you want to see him play,” Waugh added.

Kohli and Rohit will next be seen in action in a three-match ODI series against South Africa in the home conditions.
