Former Indian batter Subramaniam Badrinath questioned Chennai Super Kings’ selection despite the team’s eight-wicket win against Mumbai Indians at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai on Saturday. Badrinath reckons the team management is not picking the right players for their respective positions.

CSK played with only three overseas players and decided to drop left-arm orthodox spinner Akeal Hosein, who has picked six wickets in four games. The five-time champions backed Prashant Veer in their playing XI but the UP spinner returned with expensive figures of 0-25 in the two overs he bowled.

Badrinath said on his YouTube Channel, “CSK don’t seem to be playing players for their position. It feels more like they are playing them because they’ve signed them for whopping amounts. That’s such a wrong move. It’s clear that they are not following the process. Because CSK won, you can’t say every selection was right.”

“Despite crushing MI, CSK’s selection remains unconvincing. Why is Akeal Hosein still struggling to find a place in the side? He should still be there. Instead of him, Prashant Veer bowls the fifth over in the powerplay when he has never bowled in the IPL. Why should he play and bowl the fifth over with Akeal Hosein available?”

The former CSK batter said the franchise should have backed Akeal Hosein ahead of Shivam Dube, who is struggling in the field. Dube gave a life to Naman Dhir while fielding at short third man.

“Shivam Dube is dropping catches every match. He is a terrible fielder. You could have kept him outside and played Akeal Hosein for him, considering you only played three overseas players. Why are CSK adamant about not playing Akeal Hosein and keeping Dube in the field? How is Prashant Veer bowling ahead of Akeal Hosein? These are still questions about CSK,” said Badrinath (via the aforementioned source).
