Former Indian batter Subramaniam Badrinath believes Hardik Pandya will stay with Mumbai Indians if Rohit Sharma becomes captain for IPL 2027. Hardik Pandya is expected to part ways with the franchise, and if he doesn’t, it is reported that he may not continue as captain.
Under Pandya, Mumbai Indians have managed to qualify for the playoffs on a solitary occasion in the last three seasons.
Meanwhile, Rohit led Mumbai Indians to great success as a leader. He led the franchise to five titles and he is the joint most successful IPL captain along with MS Dhoni.
Subramaniam Badrinath said on his YouTube Channel, “I feel Hardik will stay with MI if Rohit is the captain. Rohit might talk to Hardik and convince him to stay for a year and win a title together. If Rohit talks to him, Hardik will accept. Even from Hardik’s own point of view, he can think that with the mega auction next year, he could enter the auction. There, he could go for 30 or even 40 crores.”
Recently, Kieron Pollard was appointed as Mumbai Indians’ head coach after the franchise parted ways with Mahela Jayawardene. The former CSK batter, Badrinath, said Pollard’s appointment will help Pandya.
“Hardik and Kieron Pollard have an excellent equation. They adore each other. So Pollard also could talk to Hardik and try to convince him to stay for one year and promise him an excellent environment in MI. Rohit Sharma’s captaincy has a different level of command. So with that and Pollard being the head coach, Hardik’s respect for them could help him stay in MI,” said Badrinath (via the aforementioned source).
Meanwhile, Hardik Pandya has been struggling with injury woes and last played professional cricket in IPL 2026. It has been reported that Pandya will be next seen in action in IPL 2027.
Rohit, on the other hand, is in action in the ODI series against New Zealand.
