Legendary Sunil Gavaskar wants the veteran duo of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma to look at their old videos to get out of their rut form. Kohli and Rohit are under the pump for their ordinary form in the recent past and it will be crucial for them to turn the tables in the last two Tests of the Border-Gavaskar series against Australia.
After missing the opening Test at Perth due to personal reasons, Rohit has returned with scores of 3, 6, and 10. Rohit also suffered an injury scare before the MCG Test as he was hit on the knee while practicing in the nets.
On the other hand, barring scoring a century at Perth, Virat Kohli has managed scores of 5, 7, 11, and 3 in the ongoing Test series. Furthermore, Virat and Rohit could not deliver the goods in the home Test series against Bangladesh and New Zealand.
Sunil Gavaskar told Hindustan Times, “That’s up to him. It is really up to him, what he does. But you don’t score X thousand runs in international cricket and get that many hundreds unless you know how to approach and build a Test innings. I am sure this one week will give him a lot of time to look at his dismissals. More than the dismissals, I would like him and even Rohit (Sharma, the captain) to look at all the innings where they have scored brilliant centuries. That is what is going to make them start believing.”
Gavaskar feels Rohit Sharma is going through a bad patch and backed the Indian captain to bounce back strongly in the last two Tests.
“I think it’s just a bad patch. Everybody goes through a bad patch and that’s what’s happened to him. Again, like I said, he should look at all the videos where he’s scored century after century. Those are the videos that start giving you positive thoughts. Sometimes, when you have not scored runs in 2-3 matches, you start to doubt yourself. But seeing these videos where they have scored runs is the best way to get positive thoughts and energy before the next Test.”
The fourth Test match between India and Australia will be played at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground from 26th December.
