Former Indian batter Suresh Raina has backed India to bounce back in the fourth Test match against England. India is trailing 1-2 in the series and they would aim to level the series at Old Trafford. The visitors have been ticking the right boxes but they haven’t been able to grab the crucial stages, which has led to their downfall.
The tourists could not chase down 193 runs at Lord’s despite an in-form batting line-up. Furthermore, India could not grab their chances in the opening Test of the series at Leeds, Headingley.
Raina said in an interview with ANI, “They will do it. They have that sense of desire, perseverance and determination. Gill will make his mark as a batter and as a captain. I think he has done really well.”
The former CSK vice-captain showered praise on KL Rahul, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rishabh Pant for their consistent performances in the first three Test matches.
He added, “We saw how KL Rahul batted, offered some solidity as an opener and got good support from Yashasvi Jaiswal. Then Rishabh Pant, he has batted so differently and his wicketkeeping has been great.”
Raina pointed that India has had a rollercoaster series and highlighted Washington Sundar, Shubman Gill, and Jasprit Bumrah have performed consistently.
Raina concluded, “India won, then India lost, then won, then lost (talking about sessions during the Test series). However, as a player, Shubman Gill has done well. He has scored runs. Washington Sundar has done well. Jasprit Bumrah, I think his bowling was outstanding.”
Meanwhile, India has never won a Test match at Old Trafford, Manchester and they would aim to turn their fortunes.
The fourth Test match between England and India will be played at Emirates Old Trafford, Manchester, from July 23 onwards.
