Former Indian batter Suresh Raina wants Mumbai Indians to release Will Jacks ahead of the upcoming IPL 2026 auction. The England batter had failed to deliver the goods in the previous season of the tournament as he had managed only 233 runs in 11 innings at an average of 23.30 and a strike rate of 135.46.
Furthermore, Jacks had scalped six wickets at an average of 20 and economy rate of 8.57. Moreover, Raina feels MI should also release Afghanistan spinner Mujeeb-ur-Rahman. The mystery spinner had managed a solitary wicket in one match he played in the previous season.
Raina said the five-time champions should retain Rohit Sharma and Trent Boult ahead of the upcoming season. Meanwhile, Rohit had scored 418 runs in 15 matches of IPL 2025 and he was the team’s second highest run-getter after Suryakumar Yadav. Ergo, he had played an instrumental role in taking the five-time champions to the playoffs.
Raina also said MI should retain swing bowler Deepak Chahar after he bagged 11 wickets in 14 matches in the previous season.
“They should hold him (Rohit Sharma), he has won a lot of trophies for them. Deepak Chahar is just in, it depends on what options they have, so they can either release him or retain him, but they might not get players at the auction, so I think they should retain him. They should retain him (Trent Boult), he is a gun player, the advantage that he has as a left-arm bowler, they should retain him,” Raina said on Star Sports.
Meanwhile, Trent Boult had scalped 22 wickets in 16 matches of IPL 2025 at an average of 23.50 and an economy rate of 8.96 and he was the team’s highest wicket-taker.
The IPL franchises will release the list of their retained players before November 15, which is the deadline date. IPL 2026 mini-auction is likely to be scheduled on December 15.
