The Board of Control for Cricket in India president Sourav Ganguly has heaped praise on Mumbai Indians batsman Suryakumar Yadav. Ganguly stated Yadav is a very good player, and his time will come soon in the Indian team. The right-hander wasn’t named in the T20I squad for the upcoming tour of Australia and many cricket boffins feel Yadav should have got a place in the Indian squad.
Suryakumar Yadav has been a consistent performer in the IPL over the years for defending champions Mumbai Indians. The 30-year old batsman has scored 410 runs in 13 innings at an average of 41 and strike rate of 150.18 in the ongoing season for MI.
Meanwhile, the right-hander has amassed 1954 runs in 99 IPL matches at an average of 30.6 and a strike rate of 135.13. Yadav has also scored 10 fifties in the IPL.
On the other hand, Suryakumar Yadav has been a consistent performer in the domestic circuit. The batsman from Maharashtra has scored 5326 runs in 77 first-class matches at an average of 44.01.
Furthermore, the 30-year old has scored 2447 runs in 93 List A matches. Thus, Yadav didn’t have the rub of the green on his side as he was ignored for the Australian tour by the Indian selectors.
“He is a very good player,” Ganguly told Hindustan Times. “His time will come.”
On the other hand, Indian head coach Ravi Shastri feels SKY should be patient and he would be soon selected in the Indian team. Yadav has impressed with his skills and he would aim to continue the good going for MI.
India has a solid batting order and it is not easy to break into it. Yadav will look to continue knocking on the selection doors before it opens for him.
“That’s why we say to these youngsters – be patient. Like Suryakumar there are 3-4 other players on the fringe but when you have a team that is packed with talent and experience it becomes very difficult to get in,” Shastri told Times Now in an exclusive interview.
MI will face Delhi Capitals in the first qualifier at Dubai International Cricket Stadium on 5th of November.
