India’s former T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav said he is putting in all the hard work to make a comeback into the team. SKY was dropped from the T20I team despite leading the team to glory in the 2026 T20 World Cup. The right-hander was struggling to find his top form in the last 18 months and the selectors decided to look past him. 

Barring scoring a match-winning knock against the USA in the team’s opening clash of the T20I showpiece, SKY did not do much of notice in the tournament. 

Shreyas Iyer was subsequently handed over the T20I captaincy baton by the Ajit Agarkar-led selection panel. SKY could not deliver the goods while playing for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2026, as he scored 270 runs in 13 innings at an average of 20.76 and a strike rate of 147.54.

“Look, I’m putting in all the hard work and doing everything I can. If things go well, then everything will fall into place,” Suryakumar, the brand ambassador of the Pro Govinda League, replied when asked about his plans for a comeback to the national team.

“Getting fitter, trying to make a comeback? Looks like 100%,” Suryakumar said.

After the T20I snub, Suryakumar Yadav scored 163 runs in five matches of Mumbai T20 League 2026 at an average of 40.75 and a strike rate of 175.27.

The right-hander would look to come up with consistent performances in the domestic circuit to once again make a case for himself. SKY will need to deliver big performances as the competition in the T20I team is immense with many young players rising through the ranks and they are waiting in the wings for their chances.
