Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav’s game is often compared with former South African skipper AB de Villiers. Both batters are known to score all around the dial and have consistently delivered for their respective teams.
Suryakumar Yadav, who is currently leading India against Australia, said he would ask AB how he should maintain a balance between the ODI and T20I formats. SKY recalled that he tried to play the ODI format like T20s and thus could not find success.
While the Indian right-hander has a fantastic record in T20Is, he has not crack the ODIs. Yadav scored 773 runs in 37 ODI matches at an average of 25.77 and thus failed to deliver the goods consistently in the 50-over version.
On the other hand, Yadav has amassed 2734 runs in 93 T20I matches at an impressive average of 36.95 and a blistering strike rate of 164.21.
Suryakumar Yadav said in an interview with Vimal Kumar on Instagram, “If I meet him soon, then I want to ask him (de Villiers) how did he balance his T20I and ODI game? Because I have not been able to do so. I thought ODI should be played like T20I. I want to ask him what did he do to be successful in both formats. AB, if you are listening to this, please get in touch with me quickly because there are important three to four years ahead for me. And I’m very keen on playing ODI cricket also. Please help me! I couldn’t balance between T20Is and ODIs.”
Yadav hasn’t been in the best of form in T20Is, but recently scored a decent knock of 39 runs off 24 balls in the opening match against Australia. Furthermore, Yadav scored a cameo of 24 runs off 11 balls in the third game of the series at Hobart.
The fourth T20I between India and Australia will be played on Thursday at the Bill Pippen Oval, Gold Coast.
