“Suryakumar Yadav’s form is a mystery,” Saba Karim opens up on the Indian batter’s struggle in ODIs and contrasting fortunes in T20Is

Indian team’s star batter Suryakumar Yadav is yet to find himself at his usual best in ODIs. He has struggled against Mitchell Starc in the currently ongoing ODI series and is yet to get going in the no.4 position. The batter’s poor form has been a major talking poin tby experts and fans.

Yadav hasregistered two ducks in as many in the ongoing series against Australia. He got out both the times against Starc.

Following his difficulties, former wicket-keeper batter Saba Karim expects Shreyas Iyer to take the no.4 position replacing Suryakumar Yadav. Saba is also not able to decode Yadav’s two contrasting forms in T20s and ODIs.

However he feels that Rohit Sharma would want to give him some more games before completely moving forward and trying someone else in that position. But overall Saba feels that Iyer has done enough in that batting position to keep his place once he returns healthy. But Yadav’s form is a big mystery for the cricketer turned commentator.

“The team management sees Suryakumar Yadav as an option for Shreyas Iyer. I am sure that Iyer will return and be India’s No.4 at the World Cup because he has done really well in that position. Suryakumar is a mystery at the moment. He is at the top in T20Is, how can he not score runs in ODIs? This is why I feel Rohit Sharma wants to give him a few more chances,” Saba Karim stated.

Yadav has a chance to turn everything around in the final ODI clash. Everything will be in the past if he manages to get a big score in the decider. He would like to channelise his exceptional T20I form in ODIs. He is number one ranked batter in the shortest form of the game but has struggled to find that form in ODIs.

Saba Karim further discussed on India’s dearth of no.4 batters as Rajat Patidar and Sarfaraz Khan are dealing with injuries and according to him there’s no clarity on why Sanju Samson has been overlooked for that spot.

“What other options do we have for the No.4 spot? Sarfaraz Ahmed and Rajat Patidar come to mind, but they are both injured at the moment. We can consider Sanju Samson as an option. It is very important to have a few options ready. But we don’t know if he is fit or not.”

India will play Australia in the series decider on 22nd at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.
