T20 World Cup 2022: Arshdeep Singh is a big positive with the new ball – Wasim Jaffer

Former Indian opener Wasim Jaffer reckons Arshdeep Singh is a big positive with the new ball. Singh has shown the skills to move the ball both ways and he has been a great addition to the squad. The left-arm pacer scalped two wickets and conceded only 25 runs in his quota of four overs against South Africa at the Perth Stadium, Perth on Sunday.

On a pitch, which was full of pace and bounce, Singh showed he could trouble the opposition batters with his banana swing. The left-hander once again struck on the first ball he bowled to Quinton de Kock, as he induced the outside edge while inviting the drive from the South African opener.

Singh once again had Rilee Rossouw’s number as this time he got the ball to move back into the southpaw. This was the third time when Singh dismissed Rossouw and he is yet to concede a run against him.

Singh has scalped seven wickets in three matches of the ongoing T20 World Cup at an average of 13.43 and he has impressed with his ability to swing the ball in the PowerPlay overs.

“Arshdeep is a big positive with the new ball. He did well against Pakistan and today he did a good job once again. One big advantage is him being a left-arm seamer and he creates a different angle. Also, he swings it both ways and left-arm seamers, when they bring the ball back into the right-hander become more efficient like a Trent Boult or Mohammad Amir,” Wasim Jaffer told while speaking on BatBricks7 Presents Run Ki Runneeti show on CricTracker.

“Arshdeep with his abilities to bowl both, outswingers and inswingers has created confusion. He has bowled excellent lengths, and he is a great positive for India. We haven’t found a left-arm seamer after Zaheer Khan and the way Arshdeep is taking wickets with the new ball is great moving forward and for the future,” he added.

Arshdeep Singh has been right on the money with his line and length and he has shown all the promise to go a long way in his career. Singh also looked fresh as a daisy and he was full of energy in his opening spell.

Meanwhile, the Indian fast bowlers were brilliant against South Africa but they didn’t get support from their fielders, who missed their chances. Furthermore, India could only manage 133 runs on the board after Rohit Sharma elected to bat first.

India will next take on Bangladesh at the Adelaide Oval on Wednesday.
