Australian all-rounder Cameron Green has replaced Josh Inglis in the team’s T20 World Cup squad. Inglis has been ruled out after he suffered a freakish hand injury while playing Golf. The wicket-keeper batter will now need to undergo surgery.
Thus, Australia will not have any backup wicketkeeper for Matthew Wade in the T20 World Cup. The Australian selectors didn’t pick Alex Carey but they have backed an in-form Cameron Green.
Interestingly, Australia already has two fast bowling all-rounders in their team – Mitchell Marsh and Marcus Stoinis. Green can hit the deck hard and he can get assistance in favorable Australian conditions with the ball.
Meanwhile, Green has been in red-hot form in the recent past. The lanky batter amassed 118 runs in three matches against India at an average of 39.33 and a blistering strike rate of 214.55. However, he could only score one run in the first T20I against England.
After Green had a superb run against India, Aaron Finch was all praise for the 23-year-old youngster.
He had said after the series, “He is a super young player; he has shown his class. He has not played a lot of T20. He has taken it superbly.”
Green is going to hold the key for Australia and it will be interesting to note if he gets his chances in playing XI for the home team.
Australia plays its opening game against New Zealand on Saturday in Sydney.
