T20 World Cup 2022: Our focus will be to give 100% in the final – Babar Azam

Pakistan captain Babar Azam is ready to play either England or India in the final in the T20 World Cup 2022 and revealed the team’s focus will be to give their 100%. The Men in Green were able to book their final ticket after beating New Zealand by seven wickets at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Wednesday.

Pakistan came up with a dominating bowling performance to restrict the Kiwis to 152 runs after Kane Williamson decided to bat first. Shaheen Shah Afridi was the pick of the bowlers as he scalped two wickets and conceded only 24 runs in his quota of four overs. Furthermore, all the Pakistan bowlers were economical in their respective spells.

On the other hand, Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan got back into form when it mattered the most. The pair added 105 runs for the opening alliance with Azam contributing with 53 runs. Rizwan went on to score 57 runs and he was awarded the Player of the match for his fine knock.

Speaking in the post-match press conference, Babar Azam said, “See right now, we cannot say which opponent will come against us. Whichever opponent we face in the final, our focus would be to give our 100%. You ensure on overcoming things and there is always pressure in the final. We want to play fearless cricket which we played in the last three or four matches. We are ready to play either team in the final.”

It was a comprehensive win for Pakistan as they ticked all the right boxes as a collective unit. Babar Azam said when the team wins in such a fashion, they feel satisfied with their effort.

“The way the team has performed in all three departments was outstanding. The way we got the momentum after the South Africa match was very key for us and we continued that. When you win like this you feel satisfied but we still have one match and will try to concentrate on that.”

Pakistan was at their best against the Kiwis and they would want to replicate the same performance in the all-important final of the World Cup. The Men in Green have made it to the final of the T20 World Cup after a long gap of 13 years.
