Former Australian wicket-keeper bat Adam Gilchrist has lauded Rohit Sharma for leading from the front in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024. Gilchrist has noted that Rohit Sharma’s message to his batting unit is crystal clear – be aggressive from the get-go.
Rohit scored a scintillating knock of 92 runs off just 41 balls against Australia in the team’s last match of the Super 8 stage of the ongoing T20I showpiece. The right-hander smashed Australia’s gun fast bowler Mtichell Starc for 29 runs in a single over.
The Indian skipper scored seven fours and eight sixes in his thundering knock. Rohit has scored 191 runs in six matches at an average of 38.20 and a whirlwind strike rate of 159.17 in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024.
Rohit has said that he doesn’t care about personal milestones and he has his sight on a bigger aim – which is to win the World Cup.
“That’s right. He is making those statements off the field. This is how we play. And on the field, it’s inspiration stuff, it’s great entertainment. And question marks around his T20 impact – all the IPL stats and all that — that’s just again a reinforcement of the value of his leadership and the value of a team that is inspired by him. It was a really good stroke selection, knowing where to go to put the bowler off,” Adam Gilchrist told Cricbuzz.
Rohit batted with an aggressive approach against Australia despite India losing the big wicket of Virat Kohli early and Gilchrist continued to shower praise on the right-hander.
“We often hear leaders say, it’s not about the results, it’s about the process. He has stated what the process should be — that is be aggressive at all costs. If you lose your batting partner, no issues, focus on the process — that is be aggressive. That sort of expertise as a leader and the guidance that he is giving his playing XI, they are going with him,” he added.
