The defending champions England will lock horns against the West Indies in the 42nd match of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024 at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium, Gros Islet, St Lucia on Wednesday. While the West Indies won all four matches in the group stage, England was able to just make it to the next round after comprehensive wins against Oman and Namibia.
The Windies suffered a scare in their opening match against Papua New Guinea but they were more clinical against Afghanistan, New Zealand, and Uganda. The hosts have a solid batting unit as most of them have the skills to turn the match on its head. Furthermore, they were able to come up with a good bowling performance against New Zealand and Afghanistan.
Nicholas Pooran scored a fine knock of 98 runs in the last game against Afghanistan and the left-hander is going to hold the key in the middle order as he has the skills to take the game away from the opposition.
On the other hand, England was able to deliver under pressure after losing against arch-rivals Australia. The Jos Buttler-led team has a solid team but they need to be more consistent with their performances.
England, like the West Indies, have many game-changers in their team and they will be looking to grab their chances.
