India’s batting coach Vikram Rathour is not bothered with Virat Kohli’s form in the ongoing T20 World Cup. Kohli has returned with scores of 1, 4, and 0 in the first three matches of the T20 World Cup and could not deliver the goods in New York.
However, Virat Kohli was once again at his absolute best for RCB, scoring 741 runs in 15 innings at an average of 61.75 and a strike rate of 154.69 in IPL 2024. The right-hander also ended as the highest run-getter of the tournament.
Meanwhile, India’s match against Canada was abandoned due to rain in Florida on Saturday.
“I love it when every time I come there is a question about Virat Kohli, whether he is doing well or not. No concern at all, no concern at all,” Rathour told reporters on Saturday.
“He (Kohli) has been batting superbly from the tournament that he came from (IPL). Couple of dismissals here, doesn’t change anything, he is batting really well,” he added.
Rathour said Kohli is hungrier to score runs in the Super 8 stage and there is no doubt that he will hold the key.
“Actually, it’s good that he is a little hungrier, he is really keen to do well and really switched on. It’s a good space to be as a batsman, I think. Looking forward to some good games and we’ve watched some good innings from him,” he said.
Meanwhile, India has played with an unchanged XI and it will be interesting to note if they decide to alter the winning combination. Rathour said that their selection will depend on the conditions.
“Again, we need to be a flexible team. We need to look at the conditions that are in front of us and be ready to deal with those. So as a team, we are going to be really flexible, I think. We’ll react to what (conditions) we get on the day. We have enough sources in our team to deal with any kind of conditions,” Rathour responded.
India will begin their Super 8 campaign against Afghanistan at the Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, Barbados on Thursday.
