India’s gun fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah was on cloud nine after they lifted the T20 World Cup 2024 by beating South Africa by seven runs at the Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, Barbados on Saturday. This is the first World Cup title for Jasprit Bumrah and he played an instrumental role in taking India to glory.
Bumrah bagged 15 wickets in eight matches at an unbelievable average of 8.27 and economy rate of 4.18 in the T20 World Cup 2024. Thus, he was awarded the Player of the Tournament award for his consistent performances.
Meanwhile, the ace pacer was once again brilliant in the final against the Proteas. He dismissed Reeza Hendricks with a magnificent outswinger and then choked the opposition in the fag end.
South Africa was cruising as they needed a run-a-ball 30 to win their maiden World Cup title but then came Jasprit Bumrah to turn the tide. He conceded only four runs in the 16th over he bowled and then accounted for Marco Jansen in the 18th over, finding the gap between his bat and pad.
The Indian pack leader returned with impressive figures of 2-18 in his quota of four overs.
Bumrah told her wife Sanjana after the win, “It’s not really sinking because midway through the innings we were confident then we were a little nervous but I’m really happy to get a win like this, it has been a great tournament. Angad (son) is also here. He’s seen his father win the World Cup, there’s no better feeling, to contribute in a tournament like this, there’s no better feeling than that.”
When asked to shed light on India’s successful campaign and what it is like to play with this team, Bumrah said, “Absolutely exceptional. All praises come short, the way we played, how we held our calm, stuck to expectations and even in the last stage when it seemed a little bleak, we did not panic, so words fall short.”
Lastly, Sanjana asked about his thoughts on bowling with Arshdeep Singh and Hardik Pandya and Bumrah said, “It’s been really good, all of them are so confident and the variety that they bring and the confidence that they have to execute it on the big stage, that’s brilliant to see and there’s no better feeling than this.”
