Former England skipper Michael Vaughan says the absence of the Indian skipper in the Test Serie against Australia will give the hosts an easy win.
Kohli has been granted paternity leave, which will rule him out of three Tests in the upcoming series against Australia.
According to the BCCI, Kohli was granted paternity leave and will feature in just the opening Test of the four-match series. The governing body in a statement said the skipper requested the selection committee meeting held on October 26, 2020.
Although he noted that Kohli made the ‘right decision,’ Vaughan said his absence would prove to be a significant advantage for the hosts.
Meanwhile, India vs. Australia Day-Night Test is expected to be watched by around 27,000 spectators.
Vaughan stated this through a tweet he released after the BCCI made Kohli’s absence known.
India will square up against their hosts for the first Day-night Test slated for December 17 at Adelaide.
After the inclusion of Rohit Sharma in the squad, the BCCI also said the vice-captain of the India white ball would be rested for the white-ball leg of the Australia tour. He will only be involved with the Test squad as he continues returning to full fitness from the hamstring injury he recently suffered.
Having monitored his recovery from the injury, the BCCI Medical Team briefed All-India Senior Selection Committee to declare him fit for action.
There have been condemnations from the lovers of the game after Sharma was omitted. He was advised to stop playing in the ongoing Indi Premier League, where he sustained the setback.
Having consulted with Sharma and wanted him to regain full fitness, they decided to use him for the ODIs and T20Is and Test squad for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
