Former England skipper Eoin Morgan has picked India as favorites for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024. Morgan feels Rohit Sharma’s team is the strongest despite injury woes. India will miss the services of their gun-fast bowler Mohammed Shami.
Meanwhile, India was dominant throughout the ODI World Cup 2023 but they could not cross the hurdle in the all-important final against Australia.
India has picked a potent squad for the upcoming T20I showpiece and they will look to come up with a collective effort throughout the tournament.
“For me, the strongest side even with injuries throughout the tournament is India without a doubt,” Morgan said on Sky Sports. “The strength and depth is absolutely incredible at the moment. We are talking about the players who missed out in the squad of 15 because of the quality they possess.
Morgan, who took England to glory in the ODI World Cup 2019, said India can beat any team in the big event.
“They are favorites for me. The quality that they have on paper if they produce it I think they can beat anybody quite in the tournament.”
There is no doubt that India has a lot of depth in their squad and they will look to breach their major ICC title hoodoo. India last won an ICC title back in 2013 when MS Dhoni led the team to glory in the Champions Trophy.
Since then India has come up with consistent performances in the major events but they haven’t been able to bring their best in the knockout matches.
India will begin their T20 World Cup campaign against Ireland on June 5th.
