There is enough confidence – Sourav Ganguly backs Rahul Dravid and Rohit Sharma to deliver

A new dawn in Indian cricket is all set to rise as Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid will look to take forward the legacy left behind by former captain Virat Kohli and ex-coach Ravi Shastri. Dravid and Rohit’s first assignment as a coach and captain was successful as they had beaten New Zealand in three-match T20I series in home conditions.

However, Rohit missed the South African tour due to a hamstring injury and India went on to lose the Test as well as the ODI series. With the series against West Indies on the cards, both Rohit and Dravid will look to get the best out of the players.

India would want more from their middle order in the limited-overs series against the Windies as the same had led to their downfall on the tour of South Africa.

BCCI president Sourav Ganguly has put his weight behind Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid to do the job for Indian cricket.

“I wish them all the best. They have had great careers so far and I am sure they will do well for India. I cannot predict what is going to happen, but there is enough confidence in both to do well,” Ganguly told Sportstar.

Meanwhile, India last won a major ICC event back in 2013 when MS Dhoni-led the team to glory in the Champions Trophy. However, since then India has consistently made it to the knockout stages but hasn’t been able to go all the way.

In fact, India could not go past the Super 12 stage in the 2021 T20 World Cup as they lost their opening two matches against Pakistan and New Zealand. With another T20 World Cup set to be played in 2022, expectations will be high from the Indian contingent to go all the way in the tournament.

“I don’t expect and don’t want to put pressure on them by expecting too much. I just wish them all the very best. I hope they do well. They are a great side, who will always be contenders and I hope they play well,” Ganguly added.

India will be looking to tick the right boxes as a unit in the next two years under the leadership of Rohit Sharma, who has proved himself as a leader in the IPL.

The first ODI between India and West Indies will be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad on Sunday.
