They are brilliant: Ravi Shastri heaps praise on three young Indian players

Former Indian head coach Ravi Shastri has heaped praise on Rishabh Pant, Shubman Gill, and Jasprit Bumrah as he stated all these three players are brilliant in their skills.

The trio has taken giant strides since making their debut and they are an integral part of the team.

Pant and Bumrah are part of all the three format teams and have performed consistently. Bumrah is currently India’s best fast bowler and he is regarded as one of the best death bowlers in the white-ball format. Furthermore, Bumrah has made an impressive start to his Test career as he has scalped 101 wickets in 24 Test matches.

On the other hand, Rishabh Pant has played some match-winning knocks against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar series. Pant has amassed 1549 runs in 25 Test matches at an average of 39.72.

Shubman Gill also played a match-winning knock of 91 runs in the Gabba Test match against Australia in 2021. Gill has shown the skills to go a long way in his career but he should start converting his starts into substantial scores. The right-hander has not been picked for the Test series against South Africa due to injury.

“They are brilliant! Pant, Shubman Gill, Bumrah – it has only been a couple of years since they made their India debut. They have the same belief as their predecessors; it’s just that the exuberance of youth and fearlessness is far greater. They come in far more experienced than the previous generations,” Shastri told The Week.

Meanwhile, Ravi Shastri believes that the IPL has played a huge role in giving the platform to young Indian players to showcase their talent. The young guns have grown in stature by playing with and against one of the best players in the world in the IPL.

“I have always said that the IPL has made a difference – to share a dressing room with the best in the world, play with and against them and then come into the Indian team; [it makes them] far more experienced. When I was playing, the maximum pace I had faced in domestic cricket was 74kmph. Then, [when I made it] to the Indian team, [I faced] Imran Khan and the West Indies pacers. The exposure level is vastly different,” pointed out Shastri.

The Indian team had a fabulous run under the tutelage of Ravi Shastri as they won twice in Australia and also took a 2-1 lead against England in the overseas Test series.
