India’s greenhorn fast bowler Mohammed Siraj has paid a fitting tribute to Virat Kohli after the latter decided to surprisingly quit Test captaincy on Saturday.
Siraj shares a great bonhomie with Kohli as he has bolstered under his captaincy. The fast bowler made his ODI and T20I debut under Kohli’s leadership and has grown in confidence since making his debut.
Siraj has impressed in his young career and Virat Kohli has always put his weight behind the youngster to get the best out of him. Kohli also got the best out of Siraj in the IPL while leading Royal Challengers Bangalore.
In fact, Siraj has been a different bowler altogether since making his Test debut back in the 2019-20 Border Gavaskar series against Australia. Siraj was able to hit the ground running and took the red-ball cricket like fish to water.
Earlier Virat Kohli had said that MS Dhoni will always be his captain and now Siraj has come up with a similar statement for Kohli.
“To my superhero, I cannot be thankful enough for the support and the encouragement that I got from you. You have always been my great brother. Thank you for trusting me and believing in me for all these years. For seeing the great at my worst. You will always be my captain King Kohli,” wrote Siraj in the post.
Kohli always led from the front and he was able to get the best out of young players like Mohammed Siraj. Meanwhile, Siraj had missed the third Test match against South Africa due to a hamstring injury. However, Siraj has now fully recovered and he is available for the ODI series against South Africa.
On the other hand, Jasprit Bumrah revealed that Kohli told the team about his Test captaincy decision in a meeting.
“Virat Kohli told us about leaving his Test captaincy in a team meeting. It’s his decision. He knows his body. He knows his frame of mind. We respect that. It’s been a pleasure to play under his captaincy. I made my debut under him”
“He brought in energy. He brought in the fitness culture. He was driven. Everybody moved in one direction under his leadership. He has been immense and he will still be immense with his inputs,” said Bumrah.
India and South Africa will now face each other in three-match ODI series.
