Former Australian all-rounder Tom Moody showered praise on Shubman Gill after Gujarat Titans registered a seven-wicket win against Rajasthan Royals in the second qualifier at New Chandigarh on Friday.
Chasing 215 runs for the win, the GT skipper scored a magnificent knock of 104 runs off just 53 balls. The flamboyant batter scored 15 fours and three maximums in his match-winning knock. Thus, he was awarded Player of the Match.
Moody highlighted that Gill looked in complete control throughout his innings and he didn’t miss a beat.
Moody said on ESPN Cricinfo, “He looks so composed out in the middle. He looks in total control of his game. He is not a massive six hitter, but he is a great ball striker and he is comfortable being that person. He nearly struck at 200 today and he didn’t miss a beat. He looked like he was the total conductor out there – controlling the band and just cruised through the chase with great maturity.”
On the other hand, former Indian batter Ambati Rayudu also praised Gill for his match-winning knock. Rayudu said it was a very special knock from the GT skipper.
He added, “Gill looks very settled and mature now. His batting is so precise. He’s doesn’t make any mistakes as such. You don’t see any mishit. It is so clinical, which shows that he is at the top of his game. He is in that zone in his career where he can only get better and can raise the bar every year. This is a very special knock.”
The GT skipper has scored 722 runs in 15 matches of IPL 2026 at an average of 48.13 and a strike rate of 163.71 (stats before IPL final).
