Former Indian captain Virat Kohli lauded India’s historic win against England in the second Test at Edgbaston, Birmingham. India secured a massive win of 336 runs to level the series 1-1. This is India’s first win at the venue and their biggest away win.
India came up with a collective effort as Shubman Gill, Akash Deep, Mohammed Siraj, Ravindra Jadeja, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rishabh Pant delivered for the team.
Shubman Gill scored a fine knock of 269 runs in the first innings whereas he backed it up with another brilliant innings of 161 in the second essay.
On the other hand, Akash Deep bagged 10 wickets in the game whereas Mohammed Siraj took a total of seven wickets. Ravindra Jadeja, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul also scored half-centuries for the visitors.
Virat Kohli wrote on X, “Great victory for India at Edgbaston. Fearless and kept pushing England to the wall. Brilliantly led by Shubhman with the bat and in the field and impactful performances from everyone. Special mention to Siraj and Akash for the way they bowled on this pitch. @ShubmanGill @mdsirajofficial #AkashDeep
Meanwhile, Gill was awarded Player of the Match for amassing 430 runs in the Test match. Gill looked solid in both innings and showed insatiable hunger for runs.
India was sloppy at Leeds, Headingley as they dropped eight catches but they were able to bounce back stronger.
Gill said after the win, “All the things we spoke about after the last game, we were spot on with all of those things in this test. The way we came back with the ball, and on the field, was phenomenal. We were not going to drop those chances again in this test match with plenty of runs on the board. The way we were able to get through their top order was brilliant.”
The third Test match between India and England will be played at Lord’s, London from 10th July onwards.
