Australian talismanic batter Steve Smith believes Virat Kohli is the most Australian of Indian players. Kohli is known to take the bull by its horns like the Australian players and never backs down in a battle. The former Indian captain wears his heart on his sleeve and he is never shy from giving a piece of his mind to the opposition.
Virat Kohli has scored 2042 runs in 25 Test matches against Australia at an average of 47.48, including eight centuries. Kohli has even better numbers while playing in Australia as he has scored 1352 runs in 13 Test matches at an impressive average of 54.08, including six centuries and thus he walks the talk.
“I believe Virat Kohli is Australian in thoughts and action. The way he gets into a battle, the way he gets into the challenge and tries to get on top of the opposition. He’s probably the most Australian of the Indian players, I’d say,” Smith said in a video posted by Star Sports on ‘X’.
Smith added he tries to deliver his best for Australia and his aim is to play a key role in team’s success.
“There’s no real, you know, I need to beat him or anything like that. It’s just about going out and playing and trying to score as many runs as I can and helping Australia have success and that’s what it’s all about,” Smith said.
Smith added he shares a good bonhomie with Virat Kohli off the field.
“We get on quite well, share messages every now and then and look, he’s a great guy and obviously a wonderful player. It’s going to be nice to come up against him again this summer,” said Smith.
Meanwhile, it will be interesting to note Steve Smith’s batting position in the Border-Gavaskar trophy.
The opening Test match between India and Australia will be played at Perth from November 22 onwards.
