India’s former World Cup winning captain Kapil Dev feels Virat Kohli will get his runs with a bit of patience. Dev wants Kohli not to be over-aggressive in his approach and play with guile in the tough English conditions.
Kohli had a successful tour of England in 2018 as he had scored 593 runs in five Test matches and hence proved his mettle in the English conditions after a torrid tour of 2014, where he could only score 134 runs.
Meanwhile, Virat Kohli scored his last International hundred back in 2019 in the pink-ball Test match against Bangladesh at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. It is not the case that Kohli has been out of form but he has failed to get to the three-digit mark. The Indian skipper will definitely like to end his century drought in the upcoming tour of England.
“I expect him to excel. Can you really shackle him? He is a natural when it comes to adapting but I would caution him to not be over-aggressive. He will have to measure it session by session. He’ll be better off waiting for his moments of dominance,” Kapil told Mid-Day in an interview.
Dev wants Kohli to show patience while batting in the challenging English conditions.
“He will get his runs with a bit of patience. Trying too hard and too early doesn’t work in England where you need to watch the movement of the ball. If you play seam and swing well, show patience, you will succeed in England,” he added.
There is no doubt that Virat Kohli is going to hold the key on the England tour. Kohli is India’s best batsman and he will aim to be at the top of his game in England. India will first play the WTC final against New Zealand and then they will lock horns against England in the five-match Test series.
Virat Kohli will need to hit the ground running and he will look to be at his best. The WTC final will take place at Ageas Bowl, Southampton from June 18.
