Former Indian batter Robin Uthappa believes Virat Kohli’s focus should be on winning matches for India in Asia Cup and the upcoming World Cup. Kohli is a force to reckon with in the ODI format and he has been a consistent performer over the years.
Kohli played in the first ODI against the West Indies but didn’t get to bat and then he was rested for the final two games. In fact, Kohli had broken his century drought in the previous edition of the Asia Cup 2022 when he scored a fine unbeaten knock of 122 runs against Afghanistan in the Super Four stage.
There is no doubt that Kohli is going to hold the key for India in the Asia Cup and the World Cup and he will look to be at his absolute best. The talisman has amassed 12898 runs in 275 ODI matches at an average of 57.32 and he is regarded as one of the best ODI batters of all time.
Uthappa feels Kohli’s focus will be to win matches for the team rather than the personal milestones.
Robin Uthappa said while talking to Times of India, “Virat (Kohli) doesn’t really care about breaking records anymore. We as people and fans are obsessed with it. He would much rather win matches for India irrespective of those hundreds. Virat’s focus will be on winning matches for India in the Asia Cup and World Cup. He doesn’t really care about the records.”
“Whether he (Virat) achieves that milestone (breaking Sachin’s ODI centuries record) during the Asia Cup, World Cup or at any (other) point in his career, it doesn’t matter because his sole focus is on winning matches for India, not his hundreds,” said Uthappa.
Kohli scored 197 runs in two Test matches against the West Indies and thus he is in good form. The linchpin will want to carry the same in the Asia Cup, which will commence on August 30.
