Former Indian opener Virender Sehwag has urged the Ajit Agarkar-led selection panel to pick Yashasvi Jaiswal for the Champions Trophy. Sehwag believes Jaiswal will be a good addition to India’s ODI team for the marquee tournament as he has shown good form in T20Is and Test cricket.
Meanwhile, Jaiswal was India’s highest run-getter in the recently Border-Gavaskar trophy as he scored 391 runs in five Test matches at an average of 43.44.
Jaiswal has played 23 T20Is for India in which he has scored 723 runs at an average of 36.15 but he is yet to make his ODI debut. The left-hander has shown the right promise and he is definitely the future of Indian cricket.
Virender Sehwag said on his YouTube Channel, “My advice to the selectors would be to give Jaiswal a chance in 50-overs. The way he bats in Tests and T20Is, ODIs is a suitable format for him. Jaiswal should definitely be part of India’s ODI set-up.”
On the other hand, Harbhajan Singh picked Sanju Samson as his first-choice wicket-keeper batsman for the upcoming Champions Trophy.
“Sanju Samson is my choice. Sanju Samson would be the first choice,” he said on YouTube channel ‘Switch.’
Meanwhile, Shubman Gill is expected to open the innings with Rohit Sharma in the Champions Trophy. Gill has scored 2328 runs in 47 ODIs at an impressive average of 58.2. Furthermore, Rohit Sharma will be under the scanner as he managed only 31 runs in five Test innings on the Australian tour.
India will begin their Champions Trophy campaign against Bangladesh at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai on February 20.
