Former Indian opener Virender Sehwag showered praise on Virat Kohli after Royal Challengers Bengaluru claimed their second IPL title, beating Gujarat Titans by five wickets at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad on Sunday.
Chasing 156 for the win, Kohli scored a fine knock of 75 runs off just 42 balls. The talisman struck nine fours and three sixes in his blistering knock as he batted at the top of his game.
Sehwag said Kohli would have gone about his business in the similar fashion even if RCB were chasing more than 200 runs.
“Even if they lost, it was not as if they ever lost one-sided or something, they have lost after fighting only. What is better than having the world’s chase master in your team to guide you in a run chase in the final? If the target was over 200, then also he would have done the same, because he has been doing this all his life, even for the Indian team, where he has chased down some huge scores. He has chased while laughing, leaving the opposition in tears. Whether or not he is wounded, he is always deadly,” Sehwag said on Cricbuzz.
On the other hand, former Indian cricketer Manoj Tiwary also hailed Kohli for his unbeaten knock and said he knows the chasing calculations by heart at this stage of his career.
“He knows the chasing calculations by heart now at this stage. He knows which gear to apply at what stage, and he showed the proof of that today. It is not easy to perform like this and win back-to-back titles. They only used 16 players in the entire season, and that shows the stability they had in their setup,” he said.
Kohli was awarded Player of the Match for his match-winning knock.
