Former Indian opener Virender Sehwag slammed Lucknow Super Giants’ tactics after they suffered a Super Over loss against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow, on Sunday.
Sehwag slammed the team’s think tank after Rishabh Pant decided to bowl first after winning the toss. The former Delhi cricketer said he didn’t understand the decision to chase when LSG’s batting is struggling to get going in the ongoing season.
Mitchell Marsh, Aiden Markram, Nicholas Pooran, and Rishabh Pant have failed to deliver the goods for the franchise, and their batting has been their Achilles Heel this season.
“I don’t understand why LSG chased, as they are not able to score runs. You have a director of cricket, a coach and all of that. Is their brain not working? Or can they not see how their team is playing? We are unable to chase, but still do that after winning the toss. If they batted without pressure, maybe there would have been pressure on KKR chasing the same runs. You are making the same decisions. I don’t know who is taking them,” Virender Sehwag said on Cricbuzz.
Furthermore, the 2011 World Cup-winning player questioned LSG for sending out-of-form Nicholas Pooran in the Super Over against Sunil Narine. Pooran was dismissed for a duck to put his team under the cosh. Sehwag said he would have sent Ayush Badoni in the Super Over.
“KKR should have won earlier itself the way things were going. They should not have given away as many runs in the end, and they, were lucky that it got tied. I would have sent Badoni if I was there (in the super over). I would never send Pooran as he is out of form and I did not understand why they sent him. You should never send someone out of form,” he said.
Lucknow Super Giants will next take on Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai, on 4th May.
