Indian talisman Virat Kohli wants to be at his absolute best in the upcoming ODI World Cup. There is no doubt that Kohli is going to hold the key for Team India in the forthcoming ODI showpiece while batting at one down.
Virat Kohli batted at number three and scored 443 runs in nine matches at an impressive average of 55.38 in the 2019 World Cup. The talisman has amassed 12898 runs in 275 ODI matches at an average of 57.32 and he is regarded as one of the best ODI batters of all time.
Meanwhile, India last won a major ICC title back in 2013 and Kohli will be determined to break the team’s hoodoo of going all the way in a big event.
“The pressure is always there. The fans always say we want (the team) to win a cup very badly. I’d like to say not more than me. So, I’m in the right place. Honestly, I know the expectations are there and the emotions of the people are there. But please know that no one wants to win more than players,” Kohli said while talking about the World Cup at an event in Bengaluru.
Kohli added that the World Cup will bring a new challenge and he is all set to give his best to the team in the major event.
“Any challenge in front of you, you look forward to it. When difficulty comes in front of you get excited. You don’t shy away from it. After 15 years I still like encounters, and the World Cup 2023 is one (challenge). It excites me, I need something new to, you know, propel me to another level,” PTI quoted Kohli as saying.
Kohli will be seen in action in the upcoming Asia Cup. India will begin their Asia Cup campaign against arch-rivals Pakistan at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, Pallekele on September 2.
India will begin their World Cup campaign against Australia at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai on October 8.
