All-rounder Washington Sundar and Deepak Chahar have made a return to the ODI squad for the series against Zimbabwe after recovering from their respective injuries. Chahar had suffered a hamstring injury while playing against Sri Lanka back in February and was also ruled out of the IPL.
On the other hand, Washington Sundar injured his bowling hand while playing for SunRisers Hyderabad in the IPL 2022. Rahul Tripathi has received a maiden call-up in the ODI squad as he has performed consistently in the domestic circuit and the IPL. Tripathi had earlier received a maiden call-up in the T20I squad for the series against Ireland but didn’t get to make his debut.
Meanwhile, Shikhar Dhawan will once again lead the team in ODI format. Dhawan recently led the team to 3-0 win against the West Indies and led from the front.
Furthermore, Virat Kohli has not been included in the ODI squad and the talisman has been rested once again. The linchpin is expected to return to the squad for the Asia Cup, which will be played in the UAE. KL Rahul also misses out as he is yet to recover fully from Covid-19 and he is also expected to return for the Asia Cup.
Moreover, the selectors have rested captain Rohit Sharma, Rishabh Pant, Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja.
All the three ODIs against Zimbabwe will be played in Harare, with the first one to played on August 18. The next two matches are scheduled on August 20 and 22 respectively whereas the Asia Cup starts on August 27.
