Former Indian Test opener Wasim Jaffer showered praise on Gujarat Titans for coming up with a collective show in their comprehensive 77-run win against Rajasthan Royals at the Sawai Man Singh Stadium, Jaipur on Saturday.
GT posted a par score of 229 runs after Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan scored 84 and 55 runs respectively. Subsequently, Rajasthan Royals were bowled out for 152 runs as they could not put up a fight with the bat.
Jaffer said GT’s players are coming into form and praised Kagiso Rabada and Mohammed Siraj for providing early breakthroughs of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Vaibhav Suryavanshi respectively.
“They have caught great momentum. The way they have played in the last four games, it is creditable. We have already said that their bowling attack is great. But everyone is coming into form now. They changed the strategy as well. Rabada and Siraj bowl in the powerplay, and both are attacking bowlers,” Wasim Jaffer said on his YouTube channel.
On the other hand, Jaffer said RR are over-reliant on Yashasvi Jaiswal and Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s shoulders. Jaffer opined that Dhruv Jurel and Shimron Hetmyer are not consistent.
“If Jaiswal and Suryavanshi do not score runs, Rajasthan can be in a problem, and that is what happened. Dhruv Jurel is not that consistent. Hetmyer is on and off. Jadeja played well but does not have the pedigree to score 80 or 100 runs and win the match. The same struggle is seen once again,” he stated.
The former Vidarbha captain praised Gujarat Titans spinner Rashid Khan, who returned with impressive figures of 4-33 in his quota of four overs. Khan accounted for Dhruv Jurel, Ravindra Jadeja, Donvan Ferreira and Shubham Dubey.
“Rashid bowled really well. That zip was there. The consistent length was there. I can understand that when you play a lot of international and franchise cricket, you rush your comeback and do not like to sit at home. You hurry it up and that becomes a problem. It was seen in his performance in the last two years. That consistency was not there. Even now, he is not the 2016-17 Rashid but he is there 60-70%. Middle overs will be rock solid if he bowls like this. GT looks like a steady team then,” he said.
Gujarat Titans will next take on Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad on Tuesday.
