Former Indian Test opener Wasim Jaffer lavished praise on Vaibhav Suryavanshi after Rajasthan Royals suffered a five-wicket loss against Delhi Capitals. The young left-hander scored 46 runs off just 21 balls against Delhi Capitals at Delhi on Sunday.
The youngster has scored 481 runs in 12 matches of IPL 2026 at an average of 43.73 and a blistering strike rate of 239.30. Suryavanshi has been performing consistently in the IPL and had a breakthrough season in IPL 2025.
Suryavanshi scored 252 runs in seven matches of IPL 2025 for Rajasthan Royals at an average of 36 and a strike rate of 206.55 and thus hogged all the limelight.
Jaffer said the youngster should be picked in the Indian team to play International cricket.
“I feel Vaibhav should get a chance in this format, and he can walk into any team. The way he plays, he brings that X factor and always gives you the start you need. He has been consistent as well and is batting at a strike rate of 200. Keep his age aide. If performance is the criteria, he has been performing and has done so in the U19 and India A games as well. He has put his case forward. He is hitting Starc, Rabada, Ngidi and all international bowlers. What more proof is needed that he can play international cricket?,” he said on his YouTube channel.
The former consistent performer in the domestic circuit added that Suryavanshi has a similar aura to Sachin Tendulkar at an early age.
“Many people look forward to RR games not because of the team but because of Vaibhav. A lot of people were asking me that they wanted to go to see the game to watch Vaibhav. He has caught the imagination of everyone. This boy has the same aura as Sachin had at that young age. He has been wonderful,” Wasim Jaffer stated.
Suryavanshi would look to carry the good show in the ongoing IPL 2026.
