Former Indian Test opener Wasim Jaffer reckons the selectors are not picking Sarfaraz Khan in India’s Test squad for non-cricketing reasons. Khan has scored 371 runs in six Test matches at an average of 37.10.
He played his last Test match against New Zealand in 2024 in Mumbai but returned with scores of 0 and 1. However, the right-hander scored an impressive knock of 150 runs in the second innings of the first Test match at Bengaluru in the same series.
Furthermore, Khan has been performing consistently in the domestic circuit but he has been ignored by the selectors.
Wasim Jaffer said on his YouTube Channel, “I feel there is definitely something. I feel that they don’t want to pick him. Otherwise, the performance is in front of us. He has 18 first-class hundreds in such a small career. I feel they don’t want to take him. I don’t know the reason, but I think it’s beyond performance and cricketing reasons.
“I just feel that they don’t want to pick Sarfaraz Khan, irrespective of how many runs he scores and what his average is. There can be nothing else apart from this,” Jaffer added.
Meanwhile, Sarfaraz Khan scored a magnum opus knock of 154 runs off just 228 balls while playing for Mumbai against Himachal Pradesh in the Ranji Trophy clash. Thus, he played an instrumental role in his team’s innings and 97 runs win. Earlier, he was dismissed for a solitary run against Chandigarh.
The 29-year-old has an impressive first-class record as he has amassed 5314 runs in 65 matches at an average of 64.02.
