Former Indian Test opener Wasim Jaffer questioned Prabhsimran Singh’s shot selection after Punjab Kings registered a seven-wicket win against Lucknow Super Giants at the Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow on Saturday.
The PBKS opener scored an impressive knock of 69 runs off 39 balls with the help of seven fours and two sixes in the run chase of 197. However, he was dismissed while playing across the line on a full toss as he was plumbed in front of the wickets by Arjun Tendulkar.
Wasim Jaffer said on his YouTube Channel, “He ended up playing that middle line ball across the line. He generally does this, but sometimes Prabhsimran plays such shots that you feel, why is he playing these kinds of shots? If he wants to hit, he should play to his strengths, so why play such awkward shots? And then suddenly he steps out, there is a lot of movement, he moves a lot inside the crease. Prabhsimran tends to make these small mistakes. The way he gets out is a bit frustrating to watch, knowing how much talent he has.”
The former domestic giant, however, praised Singh for his consistent performances. Singh scored 510 runs in 13 innings at an average of 42.50 and a strike rate of 168.87 in the ongoing IPL 2026 and he is currently PBKS’ leading run-getter in the tournament.
“But anyway, you cannot complain when a youngster has scored five or six fifties this season and played such good cricket. He is justifying his talent. You see, in my opinion, Prabhsimran’s consistency has definitely improved a lot. There is no doubt about that. The frustration always comes when he gets out after scoring 50 or 60 runs. Even today, I felt that like Iyer, he should have finished the match.”
PBKS will depend on other results to qualify for the playoffs.
