Former Indian Test opener Wasim Jaffer reckons Yashasvi Jaiswal hasn’t been able to perform as per his pedigree in the ongoing IPL 2026. Jaiswal, who led Rajasthan Royals in the absence of injured Riyan Parag, was dismissed after scoring three runs against Gujarat Titans at the Sawai Man Singh Stadium, Jaipur on Saturday. The left-hander has scored 315 runs in 11 matches at an average of 35 and a strike rate of 157.50 in IPL 2026.
Jaffer highlighted that the inaugural champions have veered off the track after they got off to a promising start in the ongoing season. RR have won six games whereas they have suffered five losses and thus they are in almost in must-win territory.
“For RR, it is the same story. They start well, but now they are fading again, and there is trouble in qualifying. Same with DC. They are also in a similar state. The fight for qualification is neck-to-neck right now,” he said on his YouTube channel.
The former flamboyant added that RR have been dependent on Yashasvi Jaiswal and Vaibhav Suryavanshi.
“It looks like most of the load is on Yashasvi and Suryavanshi. And Yashasvi has also not performed as per his pedigree, actually. The way he started, there are slip-ups now. Those doubts are being created. They will be in a must-win situation now, and the talks and doubts will start in the camp as well,” he stated.
On the other hand, Wasim Jaffer slammed Jofra Archer for his mundane performance. Archer conceded 46 runs in three overs he bowled and also went wicketless.
“The way Archer bowled, it looked like the preparation was not there. It was very disappointing the way he started. Your captain won the toss and opted to bowl, you must know how to start. And you know GT’s top order is most important. You gave away the momentum. If Archer does not perform, again the bowling does not look that great,” he said.
Rajasthan Royals will next take on Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi, on Sunday.
