Indian skipper Rohit Sharma has said they are not worried about their number one ODI rankings while moving into the World Cup. Rohit said their focus will be to play good cricket on the given day and take one game at a time in the upcoming ODI showpiece.
India has been in fine form as they recently won the Asia Cup, their eighth overall title. Furthermore, Team India took a 2-0 lead against Australia after winning the first two matches convincingly and thus will enter the World Cup as a numero uno side in the world.
India has been consistently qualifying for the knockout stages of major ICC events but they haven’t been able to cross the last hurdle. Thus, Team India will be looking to come up with collective efforts in big matches of the mega event.
Speaking at the press conference, Rohit Sharma said, “It’s pretty good. Honestly, it doesn’t really matter what kind of ranking you go in with, what sort of performances you have had in the past. Yes, it’s a good positive thing to take forward, but you know that sport is played in present. So, we’ve got to play very good cricket on the present day. I don’t think anyone will be worried about the rankings at this point because we have bigger things to worry about.”
Rohit added that their focus will be to keep playing good cricket and get the job done in the final ODI against Australia.
“As a skipper, you would not look into all those things like a whitewash is on the cards. You would want to play good cricket and you want to achieve certain things on the field. The last two games, I wasn’t part of it, but I saw a lot of it and I thought we played really good cricket and achieved a lot,” Rohit commented.
Speaking about the positives from first two games, Rohit said, “We chased in one game, we batted first in the other game; got a decent amount of runs. We bowled pretty well in both games. We did pretty much everything right in these two games. There’s a bigger goal in mind, so focusing on that will be crucial for us.”
The third ODI of the series will be played at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Rajkot on Wednesday.
