West Indies captain Roston Chase said his team will have nothing to lose in a two-match Test series against India. The visitors will start the series as underdogs but they would want to bring their best to the table.
Chase’s team had suffered a 3-0 whitewash against Australia in June-July despite playing at home and there is no doubt that they would have their work cut out against a potent Indian team while playing away.
Furthermore, the tourists have been pegged on the back foot as fast bowlers Alzarri Joseph and Shamar Joseph have been ruled out of the India tour due to injuries. Chase said there won’t be any pressure on them and it would make them dangerous.
Roston Chase said in the pre-match press conference, “We are the underdogs. We have nothing to lose. That might make us a dangerous side.”
On the other hand, India would not want to be complacent against beleaguered West Indies’ side and they would look to be ruthless. Shubman Gill’s team had done a decent job on the England tour, drawing the five-match Anderson-Tendulkar series 2-2 and they would look to make the most of their home conditions in a two-match Test series.
The spinners are expected to come into action but Gill hinted that they won’t prepare rank turners.
The opening Test against the West Indies will be played at Ahmedabad from October 2 onwards.
