Former Indian all-rounder Reetinder Singh Sodhi has selected his India’s squad for the T20 World Cup. Sodhi, who played 18 ODIs for India, believes the Indian team needs experience for the mega event and thus picked Shikhar Dhawan in his squad.
Sodhi left out Ishan Kishan and picked Dhawan as the left-hander has more experience. The southpaw from Delhi has been in sublime form in the shortest format of the game. Dhawan had scored 618 runs in IPL 2021 whereas he scored 380 runs in the 14th season of the tournament in eight matches while playing for Delhi Capitals.
Sodhi said while talking to India News, “Shikhar Dhawan on experience. We need experience for a mega event, the T20 World Cup. Ishan Kishan is a very talented player but I feel Shikhar Dhawan can prove to be more useful. So you take him as a reserve opener and get KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma to open.”
The former Indian player also picked Mohammed Siraj who has shown an upward swing in his improvement graph. Siraj has bowled with great accuracy and has impressed with his skills. Sodhi also picked Shreyas Iyer in the squad as he feels that the middle-order batsman is a match winner. However, Iyer hasn’t played competitive cricket since he was ruled out after suffering a shoulder injury.
“If we talk about bowlers, Mohammed Siraj has set the stage on fire. He bowls amazingly well and has the experience as well. If we talk about Shreyas Iyer, he is a match-winner. He has played international cricket and won innumerable matches in the IPL.”
Sodhi also picked Suryakumar Yadav in the squad, who has been in great form in the recent past. The former all-rounder from Punjab has selected Yuzvendra Chahal and Rahul Chahar as the two spinners and has left out players like Kuldeep Yadav, Washington and Varun Chakravarthy. Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar are the other two pacers.
Reetinder Sodhi’s preferred Indian squad for the T20 World Cup: Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Shikhar Dhawan, Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant, Hardik Pandya, Deepak Chahar, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah, Ravindra Jadeja, Rahul Chahar, Mohammed Siraj, Yuzvendra Chahal.
