We should trust his call & allow him to figure out his own batting – Robin Uthappa on Virat Kohli’s form

India’s veteran batter Robin Uthappa has expressed confidence that Virat Kohli is going to get back into form sooner than later. Uthappa said that we should trust Kohli’s call and allow him to figure out his own batting.

Kohli has been struggling to get the big runs under his belt and he has been put under pressure. The talisman had scored his last International century against Bangladesh in the pink-ball Test match at Kolkata in 2019.

Kohli has been getting to starts in the recent past but he has failed to convert them into substantial scores. In fact, Kohli could only score 12 runs in the two ODI he played against England and couldn’t get going.

The right-hander was rested for the series against West Indies and will not also play against Zimbabwe. The 32-year-old from Delhi will make a come back in the upcoming Asia Cup and he will look to find his form in the multi-team tournament.

“There are only two choices – you either take a break or you dive deeper into it. And over the last couple of years, he’s tried both avenues. It’s his call and he perhaps believes, given the situation we are at right now, that taking a break right now would be better for him. And sometimes, taking a break can unclutter your mind and help you just reset, or gives you time to actually think deeply what’s going wrong and how you want to address it.

“And maybe, that’s why he’s decided to take that time off. But whatever the reason, I feel Virat being Virat, him serving the country as he has and giving us the pleasure of his performances over the years, I think we should trust his call and allow him to figure out his own batting. Because, when he performed the way he performed, I think he found a way to figure out how to perform at that level and at that intensity,” Robin Uthappa told Sportskeeda in a media interaction organised by Sony.

On the other hand, Uthappa reckons Kohli will need to find his feet as he now only plays as a batter in the team. Kohli has had the experience of leading the team but Uthappa feels playing only as a batter makes a huge difference.

“He just has to find his feet as far as the structures changing within the team. Leaving captaincy and playing just as a player, it’s a huge change for someone like him who’s led the team for a considerable period of time and led the team in a certain way. The dynamics have changed now, so he probably wants to find his feet as far as that is also concerned. We need to trust him and trust that Virat will come back with a bang in the nearest future,” the 36-year-old added.

Kohli will look to be at his best in the Asia Cup and there is no doubt he is going to hold the key in the T20 World Cup. The veteran has all the experience under his belt and he will look to make the most of it.
