Former Australian skipper Ian Chappell has heaped praise on India’s batting talent. Chappell, well known for his expert opinion, believes India is best of all the teams if we talk about the batting talent.
India has always been known for its batting depth and the current team has some great talent as the young players are coming through the ranks.
The players have got the exposure at the domestic circuit and the IPL. Furthermore, the level of competition is high in the domestic circuit and then the players get the opportunity to learn while playing with and against the best players in the IPL.
The young players have been able to grab their opportunities and they play fearless cricket in the IPL.
Ian Chappell wrote in his column for ESPN Cricinfo, “It has become abundantly clear during this pandemic-ravaged era that one of the prized ingredients in a cricket squad is depth. When it comes to batting talent, India are best placed of all the teams. Their development system, which produces players with ‘traditional techniques’ and provides ample opportunities at first-class level, is one to be envied.”
On the other hand, Chappell feels the extent of India’s reserve players will be fully tested on the tour of England. India have got ample time to prepare for the series and they will also play a three-day warm-up match against County Select XI in Durham.
“The extent of India’s reserves will be fully tested on the England tour as they have already had to react to isolation requirements and they haven’t even played a warm-up game. Just another example of why modern cricket teams consider depth king.”
Meanwhile, India last won a series in England back in 2007 when Rahul Dravid led the team to 1-0 win. Thus, the visitors will look to come up with a collective effort.
The first Test match will be played at Trent Bridge, Nottingham from August 4.
