India’s veteran batter Ajinkya Rahane believes playing in tough English conditions is a ultimate challenge for any batter ahead of his Leicestershire stint. Rahane feels whenever he leaves the England shores, he learns something and goes back to India as an improved batter.
The right-hander is currently out of contention from India’s Test team and he will look to prove his mettle in County cricket. Rahane will be part of Leicestershire for the final five games of the County Division Two and will also take part in the One-Day Cup.
Rahane said on Foxes TV YouTube Channel, “I really enjoy playing in England. Have always thought it is the best conditions for any cricketer as it keeps you humble, keeps you grounded as conditions change very quickly so you’ve to adapt and to the different situations and be flexible in your mindset. As a cricketer I have always felt whenever you leave England, you learn something or the other and go as an improved cricketer.”
“The conditions at this time are challenging in England and the overhead conditions make it challenging for a batsman. We are defending champions in the 50-over tournament so the expectations will be high. Hopefully, I can do my best for the team and learn from my teammates as well.”
Rahane doesn’t want to think too far ahead and wants to take one game at a time. The middle order batter said the team’s success is more important than the individual records.
“Just one game at a time. I like to be in the present and if I can contribute for the team’s success in any way, I’ll be happy to do that. It’s a team sport so for me contribution for the team matters a lot rather than individual success or milestone.”
Rahane has scored 5077 runs in 85 Test matches at an average of 38.46.
