Former legendary Australian pacer Glenn McGrath has heaped praise on Hardik Pandya. The all-rounder has been performing consistently for India in the recent past and he has made a roaring comeback after recovering from injury.
Pandya had led Gujarat Titans to glory in the IPL and had led from the front. The all-rounder had scored 487 runs in 15 matches for GT and did a fine job for his team.
Subsequently, Pandya has been able to carry the same form for India. The right-hander recently scored 100 runs in two ODI matches against England and also picked six wickets in three games to bag the Player of the Series award.
Pandya scored a run-a-ball 31 in the second T20I against the West Indies on Monday. The right-hander top-scored for the team but could not convert his start into a big score.
On the other hand, Hardik Pandya got the big wicket of Kyle Mayers and conceded only 22 runs in his quota of four overs.
“Cricket is very much a confidence sport. Hardik is very much a confidence player. If he is bowling well, it has a positive impact on his batting. He is two players in one. He is a luxury. He is a good, intelligent bowler and powerful hitter. He has got a good game plan,” McGrath was quoted as saying to the reporters.
Meanwhile, McGrath also shared his thoughts on recent talks of scrapping the ODI format. The former paceman, who was known for his accurate line and length, believes ICC will need to keep the fans interested in the ODI version of the game.
“I am very much a traditionalist. I liked Tests, I liked my ODIs. Test cricket is still the ultimate to me. I hope that it is protected and still held in high regard. As for the ODIs, it is still exciting as long as they are scoring runs. Interesting to see the future (of ODIs) and see where it goes. They have got to keep making it (ODIs) exciting. They have got a few challenges,” he added.
India and West Indies will take on each other in the third T20I on Tuesday at the same venue.
