Indian captain Shikhar Dhawan was delighted with the team’s performance after they defeated West Indies by 119 runs (DLS method) at the Queen’s Park Oval, Port of Spain, Trinidad. The youngsters were able to grab their opportunities and the team came out as winners.
In fact, what was more impressive was that these young players were able to hold their nerves in the first two ODI matches, which were close fought contests. These youngsters have the experience of playing in pressure situations in the IPL and they were able to make the most of it.
Meanwhile, India dominated the third ODI and came up with a scintillating performance. The visitors were able to tick the right boxes throughout the series and Dhawan was pleased with the collective effort of the team.
India posted 225 runs in 36 overs in a rain-curtailed match while they were able to skittle out the opposition at 137 runs. Shubman Gill top-scored with 98 runs and missed out on his maiden ODI hundred due to rain intervention.
On the other hand, Yuzvendra Chahal was the pick of the bowlers as he scalped four wickets and conceded only 17 runs in the four overs he bowled.
Meanwhile, this was India’s 12 consecutive ODI series against the Windies and they continued their domination against the Caribbean nation. Furthermore, Dhawan became the first-ever Indian captain to whitewash West Indies on their home turf.
Shikhar Dhawan said in the post-match presentation, “I feel the boys are young, but they played maturely. The way they handled themselves on the field, really proud of them. Very good signs for us. I am quite pleased with my form, I have been playing this format since a long time. I was happy with the way I played that knock, in the first ODI. And even today, happy with my performance.”
Dhawan added, “The way Shubman Gill scored those 98 runs, it was amazing to watch. The way all the boys responded, it was pretty amazing. We feel lucky to come here, we are thankful to the crowd. They make us more popular. I am proud of our bowling unit, they gave their hundred percent. The way Siraj took those two wickets, and the way Shardul and others bowled.”
India will look to continue their supremacy against the West Indies in the T20I series. The first T20I will take place on Friday at the Brian Lara Stadium, Trinidad.
