Former Indian wicket-keeper batter Saba Karim has urged Suryakumar Yadav to convert his starts into substantial scores. SKY hasn’t been able to grab his opportunities in the two ODIs against the West Indies and he will look to deliver the goods in the upcoming matches.
The right-hander scored 13 runs in the first ODI against the Windies and he could only manage nine runs in the second game. In both the matches, Yadav has been dismissed after chopping the ball back onto the stumps.
The 31-year-old from Maharashtra has scored 332 runs in 12 ODI matches at an average of 36.89. In fact, Yadav has been in fine form as he had scored a magnificent knock of 117 runs off just 55 balls in the third T20I against England but his knock had gone in vain.
Karim added that he would want to see Suryakumar Yadav become a consistent performer for the Indian team and he needs to take his chances in the absence of players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant, and Hardik Pandya.
“I would like to see Suryakumar Yadav become a consistent match-winner for India. He scored a century in the T20I against England. But despite getting a number of chances (in ODIs), he hasn’t been able to make the most of the starts he got. This is not allowed in international cricket. When you have so much stroke-making ability, you need to make the most of it,” Karim was quoted as saying on India news.
On the other hand, players like Dinesh Karthik, Deepak Hooda, and Axar Patel have done a good job for the team in the recent past. However, Karim reckons Ishan Kishan needs to be more consistent for the national team. Kishan had a good T20I series against South Africa but could not get going in the solitary T20I he played against England.
“Dinesh Karthik doesn’t need any inspiration as he himself is an inspiration and has a lot of experience. But Ishan Kishan hasn’t quite been able to make the most of his chances and win games for his team like Axar Patel or Deepak Hooda did,” he added.
Meanwhile, India has taken a lead of 2-0 in the three-match series against West Indies and the hosts will look to continue their domination in the third ODI, which will take place on Wednesday.
