Former Indian batter Mohammad Kaif is hopeful that Rohit Sharma will be fit to play in the fourth T20I against the West Indies. Rohit was forced to retire hurt after suffering from back spasm while batting in the second innings of the third T20I.
The Indian captain had scored only 11 runs after facing five balls. Kaif reckons the young Indian team will need the experience of Rohit Sharma in the fourth T20I.
Rohit is the most senior player in the team and he is crucial both as a leader as well as a batter. Rohit is in decent form as he had scored a fine knock of 64 runs in the first T20I against the Windies. If Rohit fails to recover from his injury then Hardik Pandya will lead the team.
However, it has been reported that Rohit will be given the green signal to take part in the penultimate match of the series.
While sharing his thoughts on Twitter, the cricketer-turned-commentator wrote: “This young team needs Rohit Sharma as captain, here’s hoping his injury is not serious. Fingers crossed. @ImRo45.”
Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma had given an injury update in the post-match presentation after India won the third T20I by seven wickets.
Rohit had said, “It’s okay at the moment. We’ve got a few days till the next game, hopefully it should be okay (his injury).”
On the other hand, India had taken a 2-1 lead in the five-match series after Suryakumar Yadav played a brilliant knock of 76 runs off just 43 balls. The fourth T20I between India and West Indies will be played in Florida on Saturday.
After the ongoing T20I series against West Indies, India will take part in the Asia Cup. The Rohit Sharma-led team will take on arch-rivals Pakistan on August 28 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
