India’s bowling coach Paras Mhambrey showered praise on Mukesh Kumar, stating he has bowled very well so far in his debut match against the West Indies at Queen’s Park, Trinidad. Kumar bagged his maiden Test wicket when he dismissed West Indies’ debutant Kirk McKenzie after the left-hander scored 32 runs.
Mukesh currently has figures of 1-32 in the 14 overs he bowled. The right-arm pacer, who plays for Bengal in the domestic circuit, bowled in the right areas on the third day’s play and reaped rewards for the same.
“I think he bowled very well,” Mhambrey said after the stumps on Day 3. “Given the conditions the way he has gone about putting everything behind the ball that is very heartening to see and that is what is expected from him and from the team management this is what we wanted. Just to give his best and this is what he has done.
Mhambrey was all impressed with the progress, which the 29-year-old showed throughout the game.
“I am extremely happy with the progress he has shown from the first ball of the first session he bowled, to the second new ball where he showed some signs of moving the new ball it was real quality stuff.”
Meanwhile, West Indies ended the third day’s play at 229-5, trailing by India’s score of 438 by 209 runs. Mhambrey feels the opening session on the penultimate day is going to hold the key for the visitors.
“I think the first session (on Sunday) will be important,” Mhambrey said. “To see the way we swung the ball in the last session right now, both Siraj and Mukesh came in and swung the ball and troubled the batters and there were a couple of close calls out there.
“Looking at that, I think the first session in the morning and even the first hour is going to be crucial. If we pick up a couple of wickets is opens up the match for us and we can take the game forward and see where we are. What we look for from the bowlers is to hit the right areas, show some patience and make the batters play.”
Ravindra Jadeja has been the pick of the bowlers so far for the visitors as he has figures of 2-37 in the 25 overs he has bowled.
