Former Indian Test opener Wasim Jaffer reckons Suryakumar Yadav came out with a lot more intent after India registered a seven-wicket win in the third T20I against the West Indies on Tuesday at the Providence Stadium, Guyana. After debutant Yashasvi Jaiswal was dismissed for a solitary run, SKY smashed a four and a six on the first two balls he faced against Obed McCoy.
The right-hander completed his fifty off just 23 balls and went on to score a cracking knock of 83 runs off just 44 balls to help India chase down 160 runs. The Mumbai batter smashed 10 fours and four sixes in his blistering knock. The 32-year-old showed his range of shots and was able to get off the blocks in a jiffy.
“To be honest, he looked quite rusty, throughout the ODIs and in the first two T20Is as well. Today was a different Suryakumar Yadav. That can happen with Suryakumar Yadav. He came out with a lot more intent, especially against the left-arm spinner. That’s been his downfall a few times – getting out to left-arm spinners,” said Jaffer while talking to ESPN Cricinfo.
SKY added a fine alliance of 87 runs with Tilak Varma and played at the top of his game. The former domestic giant added Yadav is a nightmare for the bowlers and the opposition’s captain if he bats the way he did.
“He’s that kind of a batter. He likes to take risks and when it comes off, you get to see an innings like that. Absolute delight. When he is playing like that, he is a nightmare for bowlers and the [opposition] captain,” Jaffer added.
Yadav will once again hold the key for the Indian team in the last two T20Is against the Windies. The fourth T20I between these two teams will be played on Saturday at Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground, Lauderhill, Florida.
