Indian bowling coach Paras Mhambrey is delighted with the way Mukesh Kumar has started his career. Kumar, who plays for Bengal in the domestic circuit, has made his International debut in all three formats of the game on the ongoing tour of the West Indies.
Kumar has not only got the ball to swing both ways in the PowerPlay overs but he has also nailed his yorkers while bowling at the death. Kumar took two wickets on his Test debut against the Windies.
Subsequently, the right-arm pacer snared four wickets in three ODIs versus the hosts at an average of 17.25. Furthermore, he has picked two wickets in three T20Is he has played on the Caribbean tour. Ergo, Kumar has taken International cricket like fish to water.
Paras Mhambrey said in the pre-match press conference, “I’m extremely happy with the way he [Mukesh] has progressed. Not many people get the opportunity to feature [make debut] in all three formats. But to get a chance to play in all three formats is fantastic.”
He added: “Very happy with the way he has progressed; the thought process, the discussion we had with him, and his approach towards the game is fabulous. You need someone like him to come here on a tour and play against tough opponents on a different wicket which is never easy. But the way he has gone about it and the character he has shown [makes us] extremely happy.”
Mhambrey added the 29-year-old from Bihar pacer is capable of playing all three formats for the national team.
“Going forward, since we know he is capable of playing all three formats, we need to be smart with his workload management. He has played a lot of domestic cricket and got quality skills out there.”
Kumar will look to continue the good show for Team India and he is expected to get better with more experience.
